Thank you for your interest in commissioning a portrait of your beloved furry family member! Each painting and client is unique, so pricing is not exactly "one size fits all." That's what makes your piece a custom artwork! The cost of your commissioned painting will depend on several factors...

Traditional canvas on top; Gallery wrapped canvas on bottom

CANVAS STYLE: My standard pet portraits are painted on a traditional stretched canvas, which is 3/4" thick and is most suitable for framing.

In some sizes, gallery wrapped style canvas is an available option. These thicker canvases are 1.5" deep and the painting extends around the edges. They come wired and ready to hang directly on the wall. Gallery wrapped canvas will add $20-30 to the cost of your commission, but you will save on framing it later.

POSE, EXTRA DETAILS & BACKGROUND: I really do love an up close "mug shot" of an animal's face and neck/chest, but I'd be happy to include your pet's entire body (this will most likely necessitate a larger canvas). I also prefer a simple colored background to let your pet be the star of the show, but I am willing and able to add a setting or details to your portrait as desired. Any additional details, accessories or scenery that adds to the complexity of the piece will impact the cost of your artwork.

MULTIPLE PETS: As you can imagine, two pets is essentially twice the work! Additionally, multiple subjects will almost always require a larger canvas.

CANVAS SIZE: Obviously, the size of your canvas will impact the cost of your piece. Just remember that some smaller paintings can be quite complex and some that are larger may be more simple, so this is where things can get a little hairy (pet pun intended!). I really need to see the photo you have in mind to be able to suggest an appropriate size canvas for the pose of choice. It might be just silly to attempt to squeeze a big dog's whole body on a small canvas, so I will always be honest about what I think will make your portrait the best it can be! Current base prices for one pet, cropped to include head and shoulders, with a simple colored background on traditional canvas are listed below:

  • 11"x14" and 12"x12" begin at $500

  • 12"x16" and 14"x14" begin at $575

  • 14"x18" and 16"x16" begin at $600

  • 16"x20" and 18"x18" begin at $675

  • 20"x20" begins at $750

  • 18"x24" begins at $850

  • 24”x30” begins at $1000

SHIPPING COSTS: Shipping costs are the responsibility of the client and are added to the price of the commissioned artwork. Completed paintings are always insured for the cost of the artwork. Your shipping cost will be calculated once we determine the size and insurance needs of your portrait, as well as your shipping address (carrier rates fluctuate dramatically when I ship to the west coast vs. the east coast!).

Email me at Larisa@larisakamp.com! Send me your photos, tell me all about your fur baby and your ideas for your portrait. Once I see your photo and we discuss all of the details above, I will be able to give you a quote for your specific work of art!
